Boat park
The taster courses at the Segelcamp take place on a wide variety of boat classes. Depending on age and skill level, there are larger or smaller, faster or slower, modern or traditional boats available - because fast doesn't always mean better. All boat classes have one thing in common: they have proven themselves in training and offer the ideal introduction to sailing. All details about our boat types can be found here.
Optimists
Optimists are ideal boats for starting sailing at a young age. Their shape, equipment and sailing characteristics provide a high degree of safety: although they can capsize, they are unsinkable. Little sailors make it big!
The Optimist was designed by the American designer Clarky Mills, standardized by the Danish architect A. Damgard and fitted with the rig that is now commonplace. The class symbol is the O with a small vertical line.
The boat is easy to transport on the roof of a medium-sized car. Transport trailers with up to 12 Optis can often be seen on the road for entire club teams.
The Optimist boat class is the largest in the world with around 500,000 boats. In Germany alone, many thousands of children have learned to sail in the Opti and proved their skills at regattas.
An Optimist is 2.30m long, 1.13m wide, usually weighs around 35 kilos (hull) and has a so-called spritsail with a sail area of 3.5m². The highest speed is approx. 4 knots.
Typically, one child sails alone on an Opti. There are 25 Optis available at the Segelcamp for pure sailing fun!
O'pen SKIFF
With the O'pen SKIFF, children and young people will find a gliding machine for lots of fun and excitement on the water. This is the ideal boat class after training on Optimists.
The O'pen SKIFF is the link between the Optimist youth boat and the new generation of sailing dinghies.
The fast 2.75 m long and 1.14 m wide planing hull of the O'pen SKIFF provides a dynamic sailing experience. At the helm of this powerful "machine", young sailors experience a feeling that was previously only reserved for adult dinghy sailors.
With the 60-foot open design and the self-steering cockpit, even capsizing is fun because the boat is ready to go again immediately. The young sailors are completely independent on the water and will be proud to sail such a modern and elegant boat. A boat for the champions of the future!
The centerboard, rudder and deck equipment are on a par with modern dinghies: the Cunningham rigging and mainsheet with clamping block are high-quality features.
The rig consists of a through-profiled 4.5m² monofilm sail with mast pocket, similar to a windsurfing sail. Rigged on an epoxy mast, the sail was designed with an "open leech" to give the sailor the best control and performance even in strong winds.
A child or teenager sails alone on an O'pen skiff. At the Segelcamp, 4 O'pen SKIFFs are available for a dynamic sailing experience!
C55 dinghy
The C55 "dinghy" is actually a keelboat and therefore cannot be capsized. However, due to its open shape up to the bow and its agile sailing characteristics, it is called a C55 dinghy in the Segelcamp courses. Dinghies normally only have centerboards to counteract downforce, but these do not protect against capsizing.
Designed by Swedish sailing athlete and Olympic medal winner Pelle Petterson, this type of sailing boat is the national standard class in Sweden and is used as a match race, regatta and training boat.
She is 5.5m long and sails extremely safely, stably and balanced thanks to the 180kg lifting keel. These outstanding characteristics make the C55 a well-balanced training boat that is forgiving of initial mistakes. It is simply fun to steer the responsive boat with two fingers and practice maneuvers.
The C55 has a 7/8 rig with an aluminum mast. The foresail is fitted with battens. The top is open. The sail area on the wind is 17.3m². Ready to sail, the boat weighs 450kg.
Our dinghy offers space for 4 guests and a sailing instructor. In the Segelcamp 3 C55s invite you to sail!
Skippi Yacht
The Skippi Yacht 650 Cruiser is, as the name suggests, a real small yacht. Fast, maneuverable and with a real cabin below deck. Of course, it also has a keel that allows the Skippi to sail safely.
This mini-yacht is 6.5 m long, 2.5 m wide and equipped with a mainsail, furling headsail and gennaker for all wind directions.
The Skippi yacht sails sportily and starts very quickly, especially in light winds, thanks to its excellent planing characteristics. An ideal boat for beginners to modern yacht sailing.
3 guests and a sailing instructor sail on the Skippi. There are 2 Skippi yachts available at the Segelcamp for lots of sailing fun!
Sailing cutter
Teamusine and Eny VII - the 2 sailing cutters in the Segelcamp - are the ideal boats for groups. Up to 12 people can sail together on the two-master and operate the jib, mainsail and mizzen sails. Perfect for school classes, joint company events and company outings.
Real teamwork is required on the 8.5 m long sailing cutters: the sails have to be set by hand, pulled tight and held in place - winches and clamps like on modern ships are usually not found.
A communal experience that welds the group together and at the same time teaches classic sailing skills. The cutter is also a perfect training ship, which is still used by the German navy today.
Whether children or adults, up to 12 guests and two sailing instructors sail on the cutter. At the Segelcamp, 2 cutters invite you to sail together!
Motorboats
The 4 larger motorboats at the sailing camp serve as support and safety boats during the Opti and O'pen SKIFF courses. The safety of our young sailors is very important to us and with 20, 50 or even 100 hp, we ensure that the sailing instructors are always quickly on hand to provide advice and assistance.
And if the wind should ever die completely, the motorboats can tow the sailors home and provide some other fun in the doldrums .
On the 3 smaller inflatable boats, each with 1100 watts (equivalent to approx. 3 hp), the youngsters can gain their first experience as skippers on a motorboat and learn how to handle motorized assistance in a fun way.
